The Desert Flower

Waris Dirie is a top model, writer and artist who was born in Somalia in 1965, actually she fights against the genital mutilation of young girls in Africa. In 2002 she founded her own ONG.



Waris Dirie was born in a muslim nomadic family of the Darod Clan, Waris means "desert flower'', her birth date is unknown we only know that she was born in 1965.
When she was only three years old she was mutilated by her grandmother.
At the age of thirteen, she went to Mogadishu in order to escape from her marriage with an old man.

She lived there for a few years and she after went to London to work at the house of his uncle, the ambassador of Somalia, but when the war broke up in Somalia her uncle left and she had to work in McDonald's and she started to learn English every evening after work.

One day she was discovered by the photographer Terence Donovan who made her the first black model who appeared in the magazine Vogue.
After, she worked for firmas like Chanel, Cartier, Levi's, Versace... as a model.

In 1997, she was interviewed by Laura Ziv .There it was the first time where she talked about her genital mutilation.
This woman had received many awards because of her effort and persistence in this war against the FGM and she had published two books about her life who are becoming very famous.

Carolina Herrera is a fashion designer from Venezuela known all around the world. Her brand (CH), now working by Puig, sells thousands of clothes and accesories for famous people. Her career is on its peak, so we have decided to interview her, do you know anything about her?

Jeans, more than 100 years and still so cool!

Every morning you wake up and put on your jeans, but how much do you know about them?
On 20th May it is the birthday of the most famous trousers in the world and we are here to teach  you about them.


Levi Strauss was born in Germany in 1829, his birth name was Loeb. He lost his father when he was 16 and he and his family went to the States were they reunited Jonas and Louis Strauss, two older brothers in New York City, were Levi had to work in his brother's bussines. Levi supported many religious and social causes as well as he helped to establish the first synagogue in the city. He also gave money to several charities and orphans.



BIRTH OF THE JEANS (1873)

Jacob Davis a tailor joined strauss to create and patent more durable work pants. This clothes were made with an original denim cloth. Davis used metal rivets on the pockets to make them with a high resistence pants .The following year, the patent was granted to Strauss and Davis. Strauss called them "waist overalls"  but now they are known as blue jeans.

THE TWO HORSES (1886)

The logo of the two horses indicates the incredibly strenght of Levi's clothes, it was used for first time in 1886 and now a days it hasn't changed.


WEAR BICYCLE PANTS! (1895)

Levi Strauss & Co. presents the first pants to go cycling, this pants got really much success because they had a high resistance and started to be very fashionable but not as much as the blue jeans.

LEVI STRAUSS DIES (1902)

When Levi died on September 1902 his sons were in charge of the bussiness and they used part of his money for charity.


DESTRUCTION (1906)

18th april 1906 the earthquake in San Francisco destroyed the main factory. The new fabric was built a few years later and the employers did not loose their work.

LEVI'S IN JAPAN (1908)

Levi's horses reach Japan! Levis jeans are spread around Asia, South Africa and Australia. They are becoming more and more important aroud the world.

NEW CLOTHES (1909-1918)

Between this years caqui pants and coats are introduced as well as small trousers for children who were very new and got high success. "Freedom-Alls" appear for women it was a kind of tunic-pant dessigned to give confortable clothes for women.

IT IS OFFICIAL (1928)

LS&Co are known over the world in 1928 and now they continue been so fashionable, and you can also find them in every part of the world!

La simplicidad es la clave de la elegancia

Esta frase de Coco Channel, refleja a la perfección la temática del blog; una nueva aventura.

Básicamente, esto es un proyecto de clase, pero al poderlo relacionar con un tema que nos guste, se hace mucho más ameno para nosotras, y esperamos que para vosotros también. 

Aquí, hablaremos sobre las distintas asignaturas que tenemos, pero a través de la moda. Biología, Lengua y literatura, Francés, Matemáticas... todo tras un punto de vista diferente e innovador.

Al no tener demasiada experiencia con esto de los blogs, puede que al principio cometamos algún que otro fallo, pero nos esforzaremos tanto como esté en nuestra mano.

 Ojalá este proyecto os guste tanto como a nosotras nos entusiasma.
